The Alabama and Mississippi Chapters of the American College of Surgeons are excited to gather for the 2026 Annual Meeting July 30 – August 1, 2026 at The Lodge at Gulf Shore State Park and offer this great opportunity.

After you select "Submit an Abstract" you will then need to create an account. This will allow you to save and return to your incomplete submission before you submit.

The presenter and principal contact will receive an auto-generated confirmation email, when the submission is submitted/finalized. If you need to make any changes after you submit/finalize, please contact us.

The Annual Resident Paper Competition provides a unique opportunity to present to surgeons, network with fellow trainees, and engage in professional development, so DO NOT DELAY! SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT TODAY!

Categories are General Surgery and Trauma

SUBMISSION ELIGIBILITY

• All residents and research trainees enrolled in general surgery or surgical specialty residency training or fellowship programs in Alabama or Mississippi.
   
• The entry must represent original work done by the author(s).
   
• Submission of an abstract commits the author(s) to be present July 30 - August 1, 2026 in Gulf Shores, AL if the abstract is accepted.
   
• Research abstracts only. No case reports.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

• Submit the abstract using the online submission form by June 18, 2026 at 11:45 pm CT. Only online submissions will be accepted.
   
• Upload graphs or charts as directed on the abstract submission form.
   
• When you enter your abstract, you will be asked to complete these sections: Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

PAPER COMPETITION

• Trauma – Only submissions directly related to trauma surgery will be considered.  Submissions related to acute care surgery and/or emergency general surgery should be submitted in the General/Specialty Surgery Competition. Only resident and fellows-in-training submissions are eligible to advance to the COT Region IV competition. Military cannot submit to the Chapter; must submit to ACS COT Military Region XIII. The deadline is June 18, 2026.
   
• General/Specialty Surgery – The topics have been expanded to include general and specialty surgery. The deadline is June 18, 2026.
