Call for Abstracts is Now Open!
Deadline: Monday, August 19, 2019
After you select "Submit an Abstract" you will then need to create an account. This will allow you to save and return to your incomplete submission before you submit.
The presenter and principal contact will receive an auto-generated confirmation email, when the submission is submitted/finalized. If you need to make any changes after you submit/finalize, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The competition is open to all general surgery residents, surgical specialty residents, and trauma fellows. Medical students are not eligible. To be eligible for presentation at the national level, abstracts submitted may have been previously presented but not published as full papers in any peer-reviewed journal before March 30, 2020.
Submission of Military / Civilian Resident Trauma Papers
If you are a resident or fellow in the U.S. military, the abstract must be submitted through the ACS COT Military Region, regardless of whether the work was performed in a military or civilian institution. If you are a civilian resident or fellow, the abstract must be submitted through your geographic region, regardless of whether the work was performed in a military or civilian institution. Exceptions may be made only through a mutual discussion and decision by the respective Region Chiefs.
The abstracts should describe original research in any aspect of trauma care. The topics must be categorized as either: basic laboratory research or clinical investigation. Two abstracts from each ACS COT Region (one abstract from each category) are submitted for consideration for presentation at the national meeting, but only one will be selected for the national competition.
Winners of the regional competitions should submit a three-page abstract to the appropriate ACS Regional Committee on Trauma (RCOT) Chair. Each Region Chief will establish a regional competition to select one abstract in basic laboratory research and one abstract in clinical investigation for consideration for presentation at the national competition. The dates for regional competitions vary. For the dates of specific competitions, contact the ACS Trauma Program at email@example.com or 312-202-5661.
The Region Chief will submit two copies of each abstract (one blind copy with only the paper’s title for judging and one with the principal author’s name, institution, phone, fax, and e-mail) to the Trauma Office by Friday, December 13, 2019. A pre-selected panel of judges from the COT will rank the abstracts and select a balance of basic and clinical abstracts representing each of the COT Regions by early January 2020. Each regional winner will be notified shortly thereafter.
Submission of Abstracts
The abstract should be no more than three pages and provide adequate information and objective data to evaluate the abstract properly.
The abstract should be submitted electronically, preferably as a Word document. It is permissible to single space the abstract. Charts and graphs may be embedded in the document as .jpeg files.
The first page of the abstract must include the full title of the abstract and full name of the principal author with academic degrees listed.
